Commissions
I offer commissions in oil paint.
Portrait prices are determined by a combination of size, complexity, and chosen medium. The figures listed below are intended as a general guide only. For a more accurate quote or to discuss a potential commission in detail, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The price includes all materials and my time, which on average, for a small oil painting, can take a minimum of two weeks to complete, followed by a couple of weeks to dry.
As a general rule, and where possible, I do not accept portrait commissions based on photographs taken by others. The only exception where I will work from a photograph not taken by myself is in the case of posthumous portraits, or photographic portraits captured by another professional—provided I have received permission or blessing from the original photographer.
There are two options for sittings: I can travel to you or you are welcome to come and visit my studio in Somerset where I have all my equipment and good lighting, plus tea, coffee and some homemade cake if you are lucky! During the sitting (either in my studio or on location), I will make some initial sketches from life and take a series of reference photographs to work from in more detail. This can take up to a couple of hours to half a day.
